On our way back to Ulaanbaatar, the last stop was Khustai National Park.

Khustai National Park was declared a protected zone in 1993 and is roughly 500 square kilometers in size. In the park there are a variety of plants, animals, birds and insects, but its main attraction is the Przewalski horse.

The Przewalski horse is by most considered the only truly wild horse. It was extinct in the wild starting from the 1960s, the horses nowadays living in the park are the result of the rewilding of horses previously kept in zoos and their descendants.

We headed to the park in the evening to learn more about its development as well as the species that inhabit it.

After a visit to the information center, we went deeper into the park to see the horses. First we saw a few just running around in the distance, but on our way back from the viewing point they came down from the hills to graze and we were able to watch them from only a short distance.
