Day 1 & 2 – The capital of Mongolia

We arrived early Sunday morning in Ulaanbaatar after an 8h flight from Frankfurt. On our drive from the airport to the city we could already feel a little bit of the countries vastness. The city itself has everything one would expect, dense traffic, crowds in the center, as well as shopping malls, cafes and fast food. On our first day, prior to meeting the travel group, we explored the city a bit on our own, visiting the large Genghis Khan statue at Sukhbaatar square and the State Department Store as well as grabbing a Pizza at the Dodo´s Pizza chain.

On our second day in Ulaanbaatar, the organised activities began.
After breakfast, we visited Gandan Monastery, Bogd Khan Palace and Zaisan Hill with its World War Two memorial. In the afternoon, we visited the Genghis Khan museum and learned about the history of Mongolia on its seven floors.
